AI jobs: what the adverts actually ask for
On 8 November 2026, 16,000 live adverts had AI, machine learning or LLM in the job title, 1.4% of all live adverts.
What AI job adverts actually ask for: how many carry AI in the title, which roles, what they advertise in pay, whether they mention a PhD, and what they say about a visa. Counted from every live advert TUNAI reads.
Updated 8 Nov 2026 from 1,127,468 advertsAI in the title
live adverts had AI, machine learning or LLM in the job title, 1.4% of all live adverts.
Source and caveats
Counted from job titles with whole-word matching, so “Mail” and “Thailand” never count as AI. Forward deployed and prompt engineer titles count too.
The roles
live adverts are for a data scientist, the most of the AI roles we count.
Source and caveats
Live adverts by title, every country we read. A title shows only when it has at least 20 live adverts; one under that is left out, not shown as zero. Each advert counts once.
What they pay
is the typical advertised yearly pay in UK adverts with AI in the title, against £74k for other software and data roles. US: $192k against $170k.
| Country | AI in the title | Other software and data |
|---|---|---|
| UK | £108k | £74k |
| US | $192k | $170k |
| Canada | C$141k | C$140k |
Source and caveats
Advertised pay: the median of adverts that state a yearly figure we could read, each country in its own money. Not what people earn, and not a modelled premium. From 150 UK AI adverts and 420 others.
Do you need a PhD?
of AI adverts mention a PhD. 16% mention a master's, and 13% say “or equivalent experience”.
Source and caveats
Read from the full text of 14,000 live AI adverts (a fixed sample, when there are more), once a week. An advert can say more than one, and a mention is not always a requirement.
Read once a week. This reading: 8 November 2026.
AI in jobs that are not AI
of adverts for nurses, marketers, teachers and HR mention AI, ChatGPT, Copilot or a similar tool somewhere in the text. The most: marketers, 59%.
Source and caveats
Read from the full text of live adverts (a fixed sample of each role, when there are more), once a week. A mention can be the employer saying it uses AI itself.
Read once a week. This reading: 5 November 2026.
Sponsorship, in the advert's own words
of UK AI adverts say they sponsor visas, against 1% of all UK software and data adverts. 8% of the AI adverts say they do not; the rest say nothing, and silence is not a no.
Source and caveats
What the advert says, read the same way as the sponsorship check. It is the advert's wording, not a promise of a visa. From 1,500 UK AI adverts and 3,700 software and data adverts whose full text we hold.
Room for juniors?
of AI adverts that state a level are junior or graduate roles. Mid: 4%. Senior and above: 87%.
Source and caveats
From 10,000 live AI adverts that state a level; 35% of AI adverts state none.

What this means if you are looking
Read past the title. TUNAI reads the whole advert, so you can see what an AI role asks for, what it says about pay and a visa, before you spend an evening on the application.
How we count
Every live advert TUNAI reads from employers’ own job boards and public job sites, counted once when the same job appears twice. Recounted every night; a number on this page changes only when the count behind it does, and a figure resting on too few adverts is left out rather than shown. The numbers are free to reuse with a link to this page (CSV, CC BY 4.0). Read the full methodology.
